The short version
The Guitar Tricks free trial is 14 days of Full Access: every one of the 11,000+ lessons, every song lesson, the toolbox, the feedback system and the apps, with nothing held back. You can cancel at any point during the 14 days and pay nothing. You do need a card: Guitar Tricks takes billing details when you start, and on day 15 the trial converts to the $29.95 monthly plan unless you have cancelled. Right now Guitar Tricks also includes a free gift it values at $49 with trial sign-ups.
What the trial includes
Everything a paying member gets:
- The Core Learning System (Guitar Fundamentals 1 and 2), which is where to spend most of your 14 days if you are a beginner
- The Blues, Rock, Country and Acoustic style courses and the lessons in 12 other styles
- The full song library, more than 1,000 songs, with scrolling notation, tab, looping and jam tracks
- The Toolbox: tuner, metronome, chord and scale finder, jam-track station
- Practice Streaks and progress tracking
- The iOS and Android apps
- The weekly Guitar Insider video and the Feedback System, which Guitar Tricks opens to all Full Access members (a trial is a Full Access account)
There is no “trial version” with locked content. What you see in the 14 days is what you would be paying for.
Do you need a credit card?
Yes. Guitar Tricks’ own support page puts it this way: billing details are collected at sign-up, there is no charge for 14 days, and at the end of the trial you are automatically converted to a Full Access monthly membership at $29.95 a month. So set a reminder for day 12. If you decide to stay, switch to the annual plan before the trial ends; it is $179 (or $143.20 with the code SAVE20, see our coupon page), which is half the monthly rate over a year.
What happens when the 14 days end
If you have not cancelled, you are billed $29.95 for the monthly plan on day 15, or $179 for annual if you upgraded during the trial. If you cancel before then, nothing is charged and your account drops to Guitar Tricks’ free Basic tier (24 lessons, the tuner and the metronome). Paid plans also carry a 60-day money-back guarantee, so even after the trial you have two months to change your mind.
How to cancel the Guitar Tricks trial
- Log in on the website (not the app).
- Click your user icon at the top right and choose Billing & Settings.
- Under Billing, click Cancel Billing, pick a reason, and follow the prompts through to “Cancel All Billing”.
- You will get a confirmation email. Keep it.
It takes about two minutes and Guitar Tricks does not make you phone anyone. If you would rather not click through the retention screens, emailing admin@guitartricks.com with a cancellation request works too, according to Guitar Tricks’ support site. If you started the trial through the iOS or Android app, cancel through Apple or Google Play instead.
How to get the most out of 14 days
Most people who try an online guitar course and do not continue never actually did the course. Two weeks is enough to know whether Guitar Tricks fits you if you use it like this:
- Days 1 to 3: Guitar Fundamentals 1, the first two chapters. Holding the guitar, first notes, first chord shapes. Lessons are 3 to 5 minutes, so an evening covers a chapter.
- Days 4 to 9: keep going in Fundamentals 1 and pick one song from the library that you already know. Learn its first section alongside the course.
- Days 10 to 12: try the style course for the music you like most and watch one Artist Study. This is where you will find out whether the platform has enough for you beyond the basics.
- Day 12: decide. If you have practised most days, upgrade to annual and keep going. If you have not, cancel and read our JustinGuitar comparison for a free alternative.
Frequently asked questions
Is Guitar Tricks free?
No, but the 14-day trial is, and it includes everything. After the trial there is a free Basic account with 24 lessons.
Can I do the free trial more than once?
The trial is for new accounts, so assume one per person.
Does the free trial include the app?
Yes. Log in to the iOS or Android app with your trial account.
What is the free gift with the trial?
Guitar Tricks lists it as a $49 value and reveals it after you sign up; its sign-up pages currently promote a beginner chord chart and a custom guitar path alongside the offer.
Should I pick monthly or annual at sign-up?
Pick annual if you expect to continue; it is half the price per month and the 60-day guarantee covers you. See Guitar Tricks pricing.
