Aerosmith End Touring Retirement With Two All-Star Hollywood Bowl Shows

Aerosmith are coming off the bench. Two years after the band announced it was finished with touring, the group has booked two nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 29 and November 1, billed as “California, Dream On: Aerosmith & Friends.” The guest list reads like a classic-rock all-star roster, and the shows will be the band’s first headline concerts since Steven Tyler’s voice gave out in the fall of 2023.

For a band that told fans in plain terms that a full recovery was not possible, it is a remarkable turnaround, and it raises the question every Aerosmith fan will be asking between now and Halloween: what will Tyler’s voice sound like when the lights go up?

    How Aerosmith got here

The story starts with the Peace Out farewell tour, which was meant to be a long, victorious goodbye. Instead it lasted three shows. At UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 9, 2023, Tyler fractured his larynx mid-tour, according to Blabbermouth. The run, originally scheduled through February 2024, was postponed while he recovered, and a rescheduled leg was set to restart in Pittsburgh in September 2024 with The Black Crowes.

It never happened. On August 2, 2024, the band canceled the rescheduled dates and retired from the road, saying Tyler could not make a full recovery, Pollstar reports. Those three Peace Out shows had all sold out before the cancellations, grossing $12,377,079 from 53,456 tickets, according to Pollstar Boxoffice figures. In other words, the demand was never the problem.

What changed is Tyler. He has been testing the voice in public, in carefully chosen settings. He and Joe Perry performed together at a private benefit in San Francisco on April 30, 2025, for Janie’s Fund, the charity Tyler created to support girls and young women who have survived trauma. That July he sang at the “Back To The Beginning” farewell concert for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath in Birmingham, England. Later that year Tyler and Perry released “One More Time,” a five-song EP with Yungblud, which The Rock Revival describes as the band’s first new material since 2012.

Perry kept the door open without promising anything. Speaking to Billboard in April 2026, as quoted by Blabbermouth, he said the band was “still kind of definitely not in touring mode” but added, “You just never know.” He also said Tyler had become comfortable singing again after taking about a year off to let his voice heal.

    Who is on the bill

The lineup is the headline after Aerosmith themselves. Announced guests include The Black Crowes, Run-DMC, Heart, Billy Idol, Sammy Hagar, Slash and Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, Tom Morello, Eric Church, Jerry Cantrell and Mike Inez of Alice in Chains, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, Sully Erna of Godsmack, Pat Monahan of Train, Marcus King, Steve Stevens, Andrew Watt, Adam Wakeman, Audley Freed and Kenny Aronoff. Don Was is the music director.

The Run-DMC booking is the obvious nod to history. The 1986 “Walk This Way” collaboration revived Aerosmith’s career and helped carry hip-hop onto rock radio, and there is no stage where fans would rather see that reunion than this one.

Fans hoping to plan around a particular guest should be careful, though. JamBase notes that guests will vary by night, with final nightly lineups announced at or near showtime and subject to change. More artists and surprise appearances are promised in the coming weeks.

The shows are presented by Live Nation-Hewitt Silva and Blackbird Presents. Pollstar says the setlist is expected to lean on the anthems, including “Dream On,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way,” “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “Crazy,” “Cryin'” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”

    What is still unclear

Two things the announcement does not settle. The first is whether this is the start of something bigger. Every outlet covering the news describes these as two exclusive nights, and nobody connected to the band has hinted at more dates. A comeback in front of roughly 17,000 people at the Hollywood Bowl is a very different proposition from a 40-city tour, and it would be no surprise if the band wants to see how Tyler handles two full sets before saying anything further.

The second is who exactly will be behind the drum kit. Joey Kramer stepped away from the road before the farewell tour, and coverage of his role here is inconsistent. The Rock Revival reports that Kramer appears in the band’s new promotional photo and says he is returning for these shows, but the same article elsewhere describes him as still retired from performing, and other outlets, including Blabbermouth and JamBase, do not address his status at all. Until the band says so directly, treat any lineup beyond Tyler and Perry as unconfirmed.

    Tickets

A Citi cardmember presale runs from 10 a.m. PT on Thursday, October 8, to 10 a.m. PT on Friday, October 9, with further presales during the week. General sale opens Saturday, October 10, at 10 a.m. PT through the band’s official site. VIP packages include a pre-show Aerosmith lounge, a limited-edition jacket, an exclusive T-shirt and early entry.

For a band that already said goodbye once, two nights in Hollywood is either a victory lap or the opening chapter of something nobody expected. Either way, the first note of “Dream On” on October 29 will tell fans more than any press release could.
